Beating Duncan - No Necro Required.
Just thought I'd share some love with everyone... we beat Duncan last night without a necro in the group. The necro can be replaced with a mesmer rather easily, and no one has to die.
Domination Mez - Skills used for Duncan:
Wastrels Worry
Wastrels Demise
Backfire
Mantra of Lightning
Mantra of Recall
Power Drain
Other two optional... use for getting to him.
I did find, to my pleasure, that you can have both of the Mantras up at the same time. Keep MoL up always for energy when he hits you with his lightning spells. Keep MoR going for the juice, and interrupt when you can. Splatter him with WW, Use WD as you see fit, but you will take damage when you do. He'll cast right through backfire, so as soon as it cools recast it.
Same deal with the PS monks, etc, keeping you alive.
Enjoy, and Invite a Mesmer!

Using a mesmer for duncan isn't exactly new:
Quote:
* The safest way to defeat Duncan is to let a Spoil Victor Necromancer or Mesmer with Backfire, Mistrust, Guilt, and Empathy under Mantra of Recovery stand on the lower floor besides the stairs, in the corner formed by the upper floor. Neither Duncan nor the spirits he summons will hit that player there, but Protective Spirit must still be kept up on that player at all times to prevent an instant kill from Duncan's Channeling Magic spells.

Aw crap... and I thought I was breaking new ground.
Well, thanks for that... and yes, people need to add more variety to these groups. I've been having great success with a mesmer in Slavers... they really contribute a LOT to these quests.
I will add... the part about the two mantras being up at the same time surprised me. I thought they were stances and one would cancel the other. I tried to use MoL to cancel MoR (and get the energy early) and actually wound up quite pleased when MoR failed to end (and MoL was active).

Mantra of Recall is not a stance, but an enchantment.

Duncan is fairly easy.... Any profession can beat it with the right skills. Some are just easier then others.

Plenty of people have beaten him without a necro or a mesmer. He's not hard. He just has a ton -a ton - of HP, which makes him annoying... not hard.

you can't, he has disenchantment spirits all about him that'll instantly strip your enchantments off.. so you can't 130 derv him, or 55 him.. or whatever else with low hp you wanna do to him.
